Pray With Us

If God be near a church , it must pray. And if he be not there, one of the first tokens of his absence will be a slothfulness in prayer.

Season of Fasting and Prayer: February 9 – March 2, 2014

Our church will be embarking on a season of fasting and prayer. During this time, we will be consecrating (setting part) ourselves in preparation for what the Lord wants to do in and through us this year, both personally and as a church community.

The Lord asks His people to do this at various times and for different purposes. The purpose of fasting is not to twist God’s arm to get Him to do what we want, it’s simply to position ourselves to receive from Him. Fasting tends to tenderize our hearts to hear His voice. As we forsake food or some other form of pleasure and feed on His Word and prayer, it enlarges our faith. Fasting is also a way to prepare ourselves for God encounters.

Here are some resources to help you along the way:

Prayer at the Journey

We pray on a weekly basis for God to move in our church, communities, campuses and city. Here is a template to help you pray - Weekly Prayer Template

Hungry For More – Each Saturday morning, people gather to lift up Jesus and worship and pray for the world, our city, Journey Church and each other. Saturday morning worship and prayer is from 9:00-10:00a at the Journey Center (11 Garden Street in the basement of First Church).

Sunday Morning Prayer – We have designated Sunday mornings from 9:30 – 10:00am as intercessory prayer for the worship gathering – open to those designated as the Journey Church Intercessory Prayer Team (JIPT).  Our intercessory prayer leader, Robin McCree, is helping to establish JIPT, a pastoral prayer team, and a team of people who will commit to praying during each and every worship experience. Contact her at –

All Church Prayer – We hold “All Church Prayer” gatherings on a regular basis where we come together for worship and prayer.

City-wide Prayer

We are part of a group of churches that pray together on a regular basis for our city. We will keep you posted on the next citywide prayer gathering.

Why Pray?

At Journey Church, we desire to foster an atmosphere and culture of prayer.  We don’t want prayer to be something we do but something we are – a people and culture of prayer.  God has put it on our hearts to have a more concentrated and consistent prayer effort.  We envision the people of Journey Church spontaneously praying together, living lives of prayer, praying in their Life Groups, and calling smaller prayer meetings at their homes, businesses and apartments.  Before Journey Church ever started, the Lord impressed upon Pastor Kent’s heart that we needed to be a church that is birthed in prayer, bathed in prayer, and advanced through prayer.  The only way we are going to have the impact God wants us to have on Cambridge, its students, its people, and the world is to be a people given wholly to prayer!  We embrace the Isaiah 56 Mandate:

Isaiah 56:7 NKJV  Even them I will bring to My holy mountain, and make them joyful in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be accepted on My altar; My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.”
